Corvallis Oregon Revolutionizes Safe Drinking Water at their Wastewater Treatment Plant by using wastewater sampling equipment pioneered by a local company. Corvallis recently purchased an optical monitoring system that allows for continuous observation of water quality and then makes the information available online. This unit first pumps the water into the machine, then passes it through a single, innovative optical flow cell utilizing fluorescence, UV-Vis absorption, and “hybrid-hyperspectral” detection. The system then takes readings at intervals of two minutes and produces no additional waste other than what was originally in the sample. This so called Objective Sampling provides continuous 24/7 sampling of the effulent in order to provide adequate, but not excessive, cleaning of the effulent prior to discharge. How important is objective sampling? This unit detected an RV dumping his blackwater tank into the water at 4am - Had that water been sampled while so heavily contaminated, every piece of sampling equipment essentially would have been unnecessarily overworked tying to neutralize contaminents that did not exist.
